The Liturgical Season of Lent begins this year on February 22nd with Ash Wednesday. In the Old Testament’s “Book of Joel” we hear the Lenten cry: “return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; rend your hearts, not your garments and return to the Lord, your God.” (Jl 2:12-13). The word “rend” means to tear apart, split, or separate,usually clothing or hair, as a sign of anger, grief or despair and was common in scriptural times. In this passage God calls for a rending of hearts. Can we let our hearts be torn, cracked, broken open and laid before the Lord. What might it mean to “rend” my heart during this Lenten season?

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
